In general, my life has been a whirlwind of travel and stays in various countries around the world, as well as in states around the U.S.A., and forays into some interesting pursuits, through which I have met people, both famous and just plain ole' interesting.
I have studied violin making in Italy, sung in an opera chorus in Miami, taught English in Japan and in the United States, lived on a goat farm in France, started a show horse magazine in Florida, edited books on a wide variety of subjects, and become a dog trainer in Massachusetts. I have met famous musicians, opera singers, equestrians, and writers. I have shared moments with poverty stricken people and billionaires. Life has been an adventure.
I have chosen to write about dogs, having worked--alongside my husband/dog-in-another-lifetime and trainer extraordinaire, Glenn--with literally thousands of canines for the last 12 years. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a firm believer in a positive approach to training. I served on the board of directors of Cape Ann Animal Aid for seven years. My weekly dog advice column, Paws for Thought, ran for three years in the Salem (MA) Evening News. I loved writing that column, but reluctantly had to stop to focus on other pursuits.
I have also chosen to write about horses. At the beginning of the century, I started up a publishing company in Florida with two others. Our first (and only) publication was an equestrian show magazine. For me, the editor and senior writer, it was baptism by fire. I jumped right in not knowing much about show horses or equestrians. However, with time and much research, interviews, and work with my colleagues and other writers, I came to know horses and the people that love them. Our publication was extremely well received. Unfortunately, our search for investors came at a steep downturn in our economy. Recently, I line edited and wrote some sections for a book about complementary and alternative health care for horses.
I am first and foremost an educator. Writing affords me the opportunity to teach and to learn. I am especially careful in putting forth information and giving advice, as I know full well the power of the written word
